A mining company in Lesotho has recently discovered a 108-carat pink diamond at their Kao mine, making history with one of the largest pink diamonds ever found. The Type IIa gemstone was discovered in March and is considered exceptionally rare. This discovery has been announced as one of the most significant diamonds ever found in Lesotho, according to the Lesotho Minister of Natural Resources.

Kao mine is known for consistently producing large pink diamonds and has been responsible for some of the rarest vivid polished outcomes. Some of the recent recoveries from the mine include the “Pink Eternity” (47.81ct) in 2022, the “Pink Dawn” (25.97ct) and “Pink Palesa” (21.68ct) in 2021, and the Rose of Kao (29.59ct) in 2018. The latest find re-cements Kao Mine’s position as one of the world’s most important producers of exceptional pink diamonds.

Storm Mountain Diamonds emphasized its commitment to responsible mining and is now a member of the Responsible Jewellery Council. Kao Mine is the fourth largest Kimberlite mine in Southern Africa.
